A friend lent us their SUP for a few beachy holidays we were going on.
It was an Aquamarina SPK-3. 10ft 10 long and 6 inches thick. It seemed very durable. You view it on Amazon although it’s no longer available.
The first time we had it out in the water when we were on holiday at Point Sands Holiday Park on the Mull of Kintyre, I struggled to be able to stand up on it, which I guess made it more of a Paddleboard than a Stand Up Paddleboard…
On my first session (beautiful sunny Sunday morning, about 7am, kids still sleeping so was going to get a decent, uninterrupted shot) a fully clothed SUPPER glided up to me and told me my paddle was way too short for me and that the board was quite narrow so wouldn’t be very stable. He lent me his paddle (a good 30cm longer, size does matter) and even gave me a shot of his board (a lot more stable but I still fell in loads). Enjoyed it though.
Later that morning Laura and the girls came down and immediately made it look easy.
Such a great spot to SUP, overlooking the Isle of Gigha. It’s a private caravan park but there’s a carpark you can access and then it’s just a tiny walk from there if you fancy giving some sea Supping a try.
